Internships

After their first clinical, students can apply to various health care organizations to work as student nurse interns. These internships are paid positions that also afford students invaluable, additional clinical experience. Many students continue their internships throughout their time at Carthage.

J-Term Study Tours

Nursing students may choose from a variety of study tours during J-Term. One of the most popular for nursing students is the “Global Perspectives in Healthcare: Service Learning in Honduras” study tour. This course allows students to focus on the community as a whole and identify needs endemic to the people within it. Students provide health promotion activities and treatment of health problems, as well as service opportunities, including service to children, hair washing for children, assistance with medical/dental procedures, distribution of supplies, construction, and spiritual care. Students will learn about cultural differences related to health care, family, economics, technology, religion, and other aspects.

Community Service

One-on-One Preceptorship

The final clinical experience in the senior year provides an intensive one-on-one preceptorship with a registered nurse. This experience helps prepare them for the transition to entry-level professional nursing.

NCLEX Preparation

The last semester of their senior year also provides a comprehensive review that prepares students to take NCLEX, including an intensive, on-campus NCLEX preparation course.
